At Dolphin Lane we provide care and training to enable residents with mild/moderate learning disabilties to move from residential care settings to a more independent scheme within the community.
The Home
Dolphin Lane is a twelve-bedded house with five bedrooms situated on the first floor and seven bedrooms on the ground floor. All rooms have en-suite facilities. Each floor has a large sitting room, domestic style kitchen and laundry facility. The Home is situated in the village of Thorpe with easy access to Wakefield and Leeds city centres. In addition, Joseph priestly colleges provide in-house services to compliment the Home’s aim of preparing people with learning disabilities for independence.
The Care
All residents are fully involved in the running of their Home from planning days and evenings out, writing the menus and shopping accordingly. Each resident cooks and serves an evening meal with one-to-one support and all cleaning is carried out as a team effort. Residents are responsible for their own room and laundry. Staff support residents in maintaining a safe environment whilst enabling the individual to develop skills to live an independent life. Needs-led assessments and care plans are carried out with the residents working on areas which they wish to develop.
The Facilities
Residents arrange a full activities programme which varies from week to week. These include leisure activities based in the community such as sport, cinema, local clubs and pubs. We also encourage residents to participate with in-house activities such as pool, snooker, board games, cards and dominoes. Residents are also encouraged to learn daily living skills with staff providing support. In addition we assist each resident in obtaining work and educational placements.
