Devon House is a residential Home for people suffering or recovering from mental ill health. We also have facilities to cater for disabled residents. The Home is situated in Oakwood near Southgate Town Centre, in North London. We have excellent transport links to London and nearby Hertfordshire, through both a bus service and nearby tube station.
The Home
Devon House is a registered Care Home, situated in Oakwood, North London. The Home provides emotional and practical support for adults with enduring mental ill health. The Home is a large purpose built house with bright and airy communal rooms. We have 14 single en-suite bedrooms that residents are encouraged to personalise to their own individual tastes. There is a very large garden with a patio area for barbecues. The house is close to a café, church, pub and local shops. A sports centre and swimming pool are a short bus/ train journey away. Bus and train times are convenient and the tube station (Picadilly Line) is a short walk from the Home. Devon House was first opened in 2001.
The Care
Staff at Devon House are both committed and skilled at meeting residents needs. We balance assessed need with expressed choice, so that care is both appropriate and able to meet changing needs effectively. Staff work closely to ensure residents are fully involved in their care and monitored closely by the Home Manager, who ensures that comprehensive training is provided to improve standards and quality. At Devon House we aim to support residents in achieving their short and long term goals and through our care planning system, identify goals / criteria to support them in gaining necessary experience and skills to make this possible. These skills can range from building confidence to attend college or moving into a supported tenancy.
The Facilities
Within Devon House we have a varied activity programme, which residents help to devise. Activities include art group, discussion group, women’s group (twice a month), cooking, gardening, weekly take away night. Within our locality we have colleges and sports facilities. We organise monthly outings to a variety of places that are chosen by the residents. Within care plans, residents identify their personal interests and are given support by staff to fulfil these plans. Residents have their own ’Residents and Relatives Association’.
