Cedars neurological care centre is situated in the village of Llangattock in the Usk Valley, set amongst the fabulous scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park. It is located about seven miles from the historic market town of Abergavenny, yet despite its rural location, Cedars is well situated for many major motorways.We have a specialist focus on caring for people with Huntingtons Disease and other neurological conditions.

The Home

The Cedars neurological care centre has 32 beds. It is situated in the village of Llangattock in the Usk Valley.The centre is nearby the town of Crickhowell, close to the Brecon Beacons. It is located about seven miles from the historic market town of Abergavenny. Cedars is well situated for many motorways, yet it is placed in a rural location. The Cedars specialises in the care and respite provision for adults with neurological conditions, mainly Huntingtons Disease. Clients are encouraged to personalise their bedrooms with ornaments, pictures, photographs and other items. Relatives and friends are very welcome to visit and to actively contribute to the care.

The Care

The care at The Cedars is based on improving and maintaining peoples physical, mental, emotional social and wellbeing, by giving specific attention to their dignity and respect. Individual care plans reflect a person centred approach, helping each person to achieve their goals. Clients are encouraged to carry out activities of daily living and are supported to make choices on an ongoing basis by maintaining their independence. Staff are well equipped and experienced in caring for adults at all stages of Huntington’s Disease, from respite care to fully supported nursing care. The Cedars promote Craegmoors’ communication strategy called “Your Voice” which ensures that each individual, based on their preferred method of communication, is able to have a voice on how their supported care is provided. Monthly service user meetings are held where individuals are able to represent the views and voices of fellow service users. The aim of the centre is to provide a person centred environment for care through individual care programmes. The centre has adopted a multi-disciplinary approach with qualified general and mental health nurses and a large team of dedicated care assistants, a physiotherapist, a therapy assistant and an occupational therapist who offer one-to-one and group activities. Each client has a primary nurse and a key worker. The clinical nurse manager and the manager provide leadership and represent each individuals’ interests.

The Facilities

The centre is located in a quiet setting, with large well maintained gardens. There is a football pitch and plenty of space for outdoor activities, for example short walks, summer BBQ's and an open air space for contemplation and summer birthday parties. Pre arranged outings to the local town of Crickhowell for shopping trips can be facilitated on a one-to-one basis or as a group activity. Outings further away are arranged according to the clients interests, for example attending football games and visiting family for special celebrations. Each client can take part with in-house activities. Facilities allow for themed evenings, for example cinema evenings and live music. All areas are wheelchair accessible.
