The home comprises of two separate units with four residents in each. It is situated within a busy housing estate just outside Cardiff City Centre and hence has the benefits of many local amenities that a city offers.
The Home
Beechley Drive has been designed to provide a comfortable enviroment for eight residents with learning disabilities and past or present mental health issues. As a Specialist Community Home our aim is to provide the residents with the best quality of life possible whilst integrating our residents into the community to lead a life that is as independent as possible given their needs and abilities. Both houses are comfortable and spacious, one of which has a large open plan kitchen and diner.
The Care
Beechley drive ensures high quality care and support at all times by providing a high, well-trained staff ratio 24-hours a day. The home is led by a group home manager with the support of a deputy manager, experienced senior support workers and trainied support workers. The team is structured to ensure the residents are supported in such a way as to promote their independence, individuality, privacy and dignity. Residents are encouraged to participate in meetings promoting selfadvocacy and empowerment in a supportive environment. Beechley Drive also has the suppport of a multi disciplinary team made up of professionals within the community in adition to the in house clinicians.
The Facilities
At Beechley Drive we try to ensure that our residents are as active as they wish to be and therefore we ensure that activities are regulary co-ordinated and evaluated. Where possible the individual will be fully involved in the devlopment of their own personal activity timetable. The activities are based on basic life principles and are geared towards encouraging greater independence for the residents. The activities include regular trips out to local venues such as museums, shopping, cinema, bowling etc. In-house activities include household skills training, board games, relaxation sessions, gardening and art & craft. Education is also a significant part of the activity timetables and where possible external colleges and educational establishments are used. There is also the opportunity for work placements within the local area.
