How to find us

Woodhouse Hall provides 24-hour care to a high standard for adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviours.

The Home

Our purpose at Woodhouse Hall is to provide the highest standards of care and accommodation as well as a supportive environment for adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviours. The Home is situated in a small residential community called East Ardsley. East Ardsley is situated near to the large city of Wakefield. Woodhouse Hall is in easy walking distance of all local amenities. The Home is close to major bus routes and near to the M1 and M62 motorways giving easy access to towns and cities such as Leeds and Sheffield. We can also be reached by train as the train station is in Wakefield just four miles away.

The Care

We believe that each resident is a unique individual and as such will receive a personal care plan. We strive to encourage our residents to exercise their own choices, feelings and emotions. We encourage independence through resident’s charters and support the resident’s wishes to privacy and dignity with total respect for personal beliefs and views. We endeavour to get to know the people that we care for and try to understand what may be the cause of their challenging behaviour. It is important to respond to challenging behaviour in a supportive way that minimises the need for physical intervention. Our staff are fully aware of the possible factors that could lead towards challenging behaviour and are trained in how to use appropriate diversionary tactics.

The Facilities

The Home’s structured activity programme is based around the philosophy of enabling clients to reach their full potential and personal growth. Residents are encouraged to be as active in the running of the Home as possible. All residents have single rooms that are personalised and have lockable doors. Residents are engaged in a number of stimulating activities with sessions in our own purpose-built activity centre where arts & crafts are available. These are regular visits to the local cinema, bowling and shopping in the nearby town. Residents have the follow-up support for additional health needs, and to carry out medical reviews. Residents also have access to local health services including optician, dentist and chiropodist as and when required.
