The Willows Care Home has two units which provide nursing care for Elderly Mentally Infirm and for over 40 years of age with mental health needs. It is situated at Perthcelyn, Mountain Ash, on the bus route between Aberdare and Pontypridd/Cardiff.
The Home
The Willows offers breathtaking views of the lower end of the Cynon Valley from all day areas and safe garden area with a patio. The unusual purpose built Mountain Top Home has a bus stop, Post Office and local convenience stores on its doorstep. It has the capacity to accommodate 24 individuals with one double option in each unit. Consideration is given to both long term alternative life style needs and respite needs. To enable residents to adopt an alternative life style culture they are encouraged to personalise their own rooms.
The Care
The Willows is adopting and ’enabling of residents as individuals’ culture via a life long learning philosophy within its work force. Our staff accept this alternative life style must be shared responsibility with our residents and are striving to build up their awareness of the effects of society’s ageist attitudes. This enables them to encourage and assist residents to live up to their limitations and participate in making decisions about their own care. Family and friends are encouraged to contribute and to participate in the care delivery.
The Facilities
Activity is the prime focus within The Willows - building on skills within the team to provide and ability to respond to a variety of individual and group activity needs. The Qualia Room offers a relaxed space within the Home, alongside materials and equipment for activities such as bingo, painting, board games, watching videos and listening to music. The Home’s own adapted minibus opens up access to outside activities and trips to various places of interest. The Willows is actively integrating itself into the local community of Perthcelyn, enabling a two way process of residents and the community participating in internal and external activities.
