The Willows Independent Hospital specifically helps individuals who suffer from a severe and enduring mental illness from 18 years of age. The hospital is capable of rehabilitation and self-caring as far as possible. Patients must have been stable for a period of time prior to admission and not in an acute phase of their illness.
The Hospital
Female services offer both medium to long term rehabilitation on both Ingrow and Winfield Wards. Winfield Ward provides transitional services for a move towards independent living in the Community. Ingrow Ward accommodates 12 patients :Winfield Ward accommodates 4 patients. Male services offer intensive and slow stream occupational therapy in Oakworth and Oldfield Wards. Steeton Ward provides transitional services for a move towards independent living in the community. Oakworth Ward accommodates 9 patients. Oldfield Ward accommodates 12 patients. Steeton Ward accommodates six patients.
The Treatment
The Care Programme Approach (CPA) means that each patient has their own individual care pathway which is designed to meet their needs and provide them with a stable, safe rehabilitation programme. Individual packages of care will be drawn up with the active involvement of the patient. The model of care is based on the “Recovery Model” which includes psychosocial intervention and cognitive behavioural therapy. Attention is paid to the social as well as psychological needs of the patient. A named nurse will be allocated to each patient, who will work closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) who include Consultant Psychiatrists, Staff Grade Psychiatrists, Consultant Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers and a G.P Service.
The Facilities
The Willows is located in attractive grounds which include various patient areas. The hospital has been designed to offer spacious accommodation conducive to a rehabilitative environment. Patient areas are light and airy and therapy areas are spacious and comfortable. Patients have individual bedrooms with full ensuite facilities.The step down unit is designed with independent living in mind with facilities designed for patients to develop their independence and confidence before being discharged into a community setting.
