How to find us

Tyn-Y-Coed is a low secure hospital situated just outside the village of Creigiau in beautiful countryside. Full time nursing care and treatment is provided for people with a learning disability, who may have mental health needs and may present challenging behaviours. The hospital is registered to provide care and treatment for adults detained under the Mental Health Act 1983.

The Hospital

The hospital consists of a seven-bedded main house and a four-bedded annex. All have communal and private living space. There is also an independent flat within the main house. The hospital is set in attractively landscaped gardens, with scenic views. A secluded courtyard provides outdoor seating in a private setting.

The Treatment

The care at the hospital is delivered by qualified nurses and support workers with support from the multi-disciplinary team. Tyn-Y-Coed promotes Craegmoors’ communication strategy called “Your Voice” which ensures that each individual, based on their preferred method of communication, is able to have a voice on how their supported care is provided. Monthly service user meetings are held where individuals are able to represent the views and voices of fellow service users. This is extended to a voice at area, divisional and national level. Tyn-Y-Coed liaises with families, community organisations, social services departments and purchasing authorities to support Person Centred Care Planning, and ensures full account is taken of social, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs of all individuals.

The Facilities

Tyn-y-Coed utilises all local amenities; pubs, churches, cinemas, shops and leisure centres and the clients help plan their own time in the community. Our Occupational Therapy Assistant ensures that there is a wide range of rehabilitation skills and also a varied activity program allowing greater scope for the client to be re-integrated into the community.
