Phoenix Lodge care home provides quality care based on respect for the residents, their right to make choices, maintain dignity and receive the best of care to suit individual needs. We offer 24-hour care for people who have an acquired brain injury. The home is situated in Torquay with easy access to local shops and amenities.
The Home
Phoenix Lodge was originally a private residence but has now been developed and extended into a care home which provides specialist care for 4 residents that have an acquired brain injury within a warm and homely environment. The home has been tastefully decorated throughout with individual décor in each bedroom to meet the requirements and needs of each resident. There is 1 en-suite bedroom. The home has an airy lounge area and a tranquil, secluded garden which offers a relaxing atmosphere and a quiet retreat. Our aim is to achieve a comfortable, warm and safe environment to provide a feeling of security, enhancing the quality of life.
The Care
The service provided at Phoenix Lodge is delivered by a dedicated and professional team committed to providing quality care. Each resident has an individual care package, specifically planned to reflect their personal needs and choices. A key worker is assigned to each resident ensuring an holistic approach to individual care and daily fulfilment. Each member of staff is trained to ensure that our residents’ personal dignity is maintained at all times.
Phoenix Lodge promotes Craegmoors’ communication strategy called “Your Voice” which ensures that each individual, based on their preferred method of communication, is able to have a voice on how their supported care is provided. Monthly service user meetings are held where individuals are able to represent the views and voices of fellow service users.
The service provided at Phoenix Lodge is intended to meet the needs of people with an acquired brain injury. This is a transitional service leading to the persons return to independent living, supported living or sheltered/specialist accommodation following assessment and support at the home. Our focus is on activities of daily living and use of real time community facilities which research suggests is more successful than the use of a clinical environment.
The Facilities
Activities are organised to reflect interests of the people using the service and include a wide range of daily activities both in and out of the home. Our menus are planned with the people that live at the home and we aim to create fresh, nutritious, homemade meals catering for all cultural, medical diets and personal preferences. We encourage people to get involved in activities but also respect a person’s need for peace and quiet and choice on how they spend their day.
The service is outcome led, there is ongoing assessment of need and the support plans are reviewed on a monthly basis with the person. We welcome visitors to the home but advise visitors to phone to check that the person they wish to see is available and wishes to receive visitors, we respect their choice not to do so on occasions.
