Orwell Care Home provides quality care based on respect for the residents, their right to make choices, maintain dignity and receive the best of care to suit individual needs. We offer 24-hour nursing including palliative and respite care for the elderly. The Home is situated in the village of Wherstead in an area of outstanding beauty approximately three miles from the centre of Ipswich.
The Home
Orwell Care Home was originally built as a vicarage but has now been developed and extended into a Care Home which provides nursing, palliative and respite care for 40 residents within a warm and homely environment. The Home has been tastefully decorated throughout with individual décor to each bedroom to meet the requirements and needs of each individual resident. There are 38 en-suite bedrooms accommodating 40 residents. The Home boasts a large conservatory within a substantial airy lounge area and a tranquil, secluded garden which offers relaxing atmosphere and a quiet retreat. Our aim is to provide a comfortable, warm and safe environment giving a feeling of security and enhancing the quality of life.
The Care
The care at Orwell is delivered by dedicated and professional multi-disciplinary team of staff committed to providing quality care. The staff are highly qualified and motivated enabling them to meet the needs of the residents. Each resident has an individual care package, specifically planned to reflect their personal needs and choices. A qualified nurse or key worker is assigned to each resident ensuring a holistic approach to individual care and daily fulfilment. Each member of staff is trained to ensure that our resident’s personal dignity is maintained at all times. Resident choice is paramount and residents are actively encouraged to make informed choices and maintain independence. We encourage residents and families to actively participate in the planning of care, which are continually monitored. GP’s, District Nurses, Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapists are available to give support as required.
The Facilities
We have our own Activities Organiser who produces a regular programme of daily quizzes, games and events. They work either one-to-one with the residents or in a group. We have painting sessions and every morning a group discussion of the daily news. There is a creative writing group, a Book circle and a Music Appreciation group. Our latest venture is developing computer skills. Activities are also supported by outside groups and visiting speakers. Family and friends are encouraged to visit as often as they wish. We have our own wheelchair accessible transport, which we use for outings and hospital visits.
