The Old Rectory is committed to working with residents, their families and Health and Social Services to support and enable residents to fulfil their maximum potential. The Home endeavours to overcome or compensate for the disabling effects of autism by addressing those deficits known as the ’Triad of Impairments’. Associated disabilites are also addressed.
The Home
The Old Rectory is a large and comfortable house with spacious and secure grounds in the heart of Trowbridge. The Home has been refurbished and modified to meet the needs of people with autism. Residents at The Old Rectory have large, individual bedrooms, which may be furnished with their own possessions. In addition to two generous sized sitting rooms, there is a dining area and separate recreational and activity area. The local town provides a wide range of occupational, educational and leisure resources. Day services are provided on and off the site with the use of the Day Centre on the grounds. The Old Rectory has a satellite house nearby which provides care for residents with other needs within the autism spectrum.
The Care
Each resident is presented with opportunities for education, training and work experience in our own specialist autism specific Day Service. The range of activities and experience on offer reflects the needs and abilities of each resident. Programmes are individualised and co-ordinated to overcome or ameliorate the effects of the Triad of Impairments and interventions are targeted on the areas of imagination, communication and social skills. Those who make use of residential services live in small groups, according to their needs, abilities and personalities. Each resident has a key worker assigned to ensure that individual needs and wishes are met.
The Facilities
The Old Rectory has a sensory room, communications room with computers and a photographic dark room. Residents attend local college for people with disabilities offering various educational courses. The Day Care Centre offers many activities including arts and crafts, music sessions, pin-bowling, swimming and horse riding. We also have a fully equipped kitchen where residents can enjoy cooking and preparing meals and drinks. Residents are encouraged to shop locally and being part of the community attend local facilities. We encourage to travel and arrange trips out to places of interest and holidays.
