How to find us

Oaklands Care home is a specialist rehabilitation unit for adults recovering from mental health problems. It is situated within easy walking distance of the city centre and all local amenities. Oaklands offers a friendly, homely environment whilst still ensuring specialist care needs are met.

The Home

Oaklands is a spacious home with lots of modern facilities. We have two large communal rooms where residents socialise and relax. Residents have access to the kitchen where they can make their own drinks and snacks. We have welcoming dining and living areas, which give people space to socialise, follow their interests and hobbies or just watch TV, DVDs, videos or use the computer. The bedrooms are lockable, single and good-sized with a washbasin. The housekeeper prepares meals with help from the residents learning kitchen skills on that particular day. Residents plan and create their own menus, in the weekly resident’s meeting. Everybody gets the chance to shop for and prepare his or her own meal once a week.

The Care

Oaklands has highly trained, experienced and motivated staff that work on a one-to –one basis with clients, building up good relationships based on knowledge and trust. Staff support service users to achieve their goals and prepare them to live independently in the future. All care plans are devised with high levels of client involvement and are reviewed each month. Clients are allocated keyworker’s from the beginning of assessment, and wherever possible follow them through from this first stage to eventual discharge. This creates good continuity of care and enables the client to have a smooth transition into the community.

The Facilities

Staff liase with other professionals involved in the care of individual service users, thus ensuring consistency of care in a multi-disciplinary capacity. We encourage residents to devise a daily programme made up of courses that will be beneficial for their future. These could consist of leisure courses, academic coursed and even some voluntary work. As part of their programme, service users also share household duties, learn kitchen skills and do their own laundry. Support workers help residents to devise a programme of interest to suit their individual needs. Service users meet weekly for a resident’s meeting and discus future outings and holidays they want to go on. We help them to organise activities and daytrips, such as bowling, going to the cinema, visiting theme parks and nightclubs.
