Alexandra Road is a ten-bedded residential Care Home for young adults with learning disabilties, epilepsy, autism, Down’s syndrome and challenging behaviour. The Home is situated in the heart of Enfield within walking distance to all the local amenities. There are many attractions that include local parks, leisure centres, bowling clubs, cinemas, restaurants and many other attractions.
The Home
Alexandra Road is a purpose built Care Home and was designed to provide a comfortable home for ten people, male and female from the ages of 21 to 64 with learning disibilities. It is important to allow residents to be part of the community and not be segregated but accepted as individuals. This reflects how the residents are welcomed within the whole community. The decor and furnishing of the Home are chosen by the service users to encourage them to have freedom of choice within their environment and to empower them at all times. The philosophy of care within the Home is to promote independence, choice, dignity, empowerment, respect, opportunities and to help them to meet and maintain their full potential.
The Care
The Home runs on a high ratio of staff to ensure that all of the residents needs are met, ensuring that the safety and dignity of the residents is maintained at all times. We have 24-hour staff with a minimum of five care staff in the morning, four in the afternoon and two waking night staff. The care team undergo an intensive induction and corporate training within the Home, specific to the clients’ needs. In addition, staff have the opportunity to carry out NVQ training and also infection control training. The Home has very close links with the multi-disciplinary team that allows us to access many services with the minimal of waiting time.
The Facilities
The Home has a large communal lounge and dining area that allows the residents to enjoy meals together as part of a family and to relax, watch TV, chat or play games. In addition, there is a quiet lounge where residents can go for rest and relaxation, spend time with family, key-worker or have private review meetings. Each service user has a detailed activity programme specific to their needs, abilities and choice. In additition to this there are alternative activities planned for the group which the residents have chosen through monthly meetings. Such activities include horse riding, swimming, Alton Towers, London Zoo, car boot sales and museums. Service users have the choice of decor to their bedroom, this will often reflect on the individual’s culture, gender or age.
