Positive Behaviour Support Services
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a framework for working with individuals who may, at times, present with behaviours that challenge (formally known as challenging behaviour). It blends best practices in Applied Behaviour Analysis with person-centered values in order to achieve outcomes that are meaningful. The goal is always to enhance the individual’s quality of life, which results in a reduction in behaviours that challenge.
How can Craegmoor help?
At Craegmoor, we understand that learning disabilities, autism and mental health problems can make everyday life challenging in many different ways. Our care pathways are designed to support those who live almost independent lives, as well as those who require long term support.
By accessing the support options available from the Priory Group of Companies, the people we support can progress through our care pathways, developing their levels of independence and understanding of their own condition. We believe that everyone, regardless of their diagnosis, has the right to the same life opportunities.
Our wide range of positive behaviour services includes:
- Residential options
- Supported living
- Specialist day centres
- Healthcare at the Priory Group’s independent hospitals
- Access to specialist education
- Support accessing employment opportunities
We take a person-centred approach so we can identify which areas of support will be most helpful to each individual, and will work with those that we support to ensure that their choices and goals are at the heart of everything that we do.
Understanding individual needs and behaviours that challenge
Central to Positive Behaviour Support is an understanding of behaviour based on assessment of the setting/situation in which it occurs. By working together with the person and everyone involved in their life we use this understanding to devise personalised support plan with guidance for people to follow.
Our PBS approach is educational, proactive and respectful, whilst encouraging the person to be as independent and as safe as possible.
As a result of our PBS approach, detailed plans and a well trained staff team, the use of restrictive medication and episodes of restraint can be reduced and overall quality of life for the individual improved.
Each person we support has individual needs. That is why the Priory Group of Companies offers seamless and integrated care pathways that allow people we support to receive the care and support that best suit their needs.
Our staff members are highly trained and are committed to helping each and every individual to get the very best out of life, whether they require community-based support or are at a Craegmoor residential service.
