Woodhouse Cottage provides support for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs. Our aim is to provide the highest quality support which enables people to develop their skills, live as independently as possible and reach their goals.

Overview of Service

At Woodhouse Cottage we support adults with learning disabilities and complex needs.

Our philosophy is to promote independence, choice, dignity, empowerment, respect and opportunities and to support everyone to fulfil their potential.

Woodhouse Cottage has a friendly and highly committed staff team, who provide support that is tailored to the needs of each person. We have the facilities to support 6 people and can offer short or long term stays. 1:1 support is provided, if required.

Everyone is involved in designing their own Person Centred Plan, with staff support. The plans are tailored to individual needs and provide the correct level of support required. They also enable everyone to make their own choices about the support they receive. We encourage and support everyone at Woodhouse Cottage to recognise and identify their goals and ambitions and how they would like to go about achieving them.

We liaise with families, social services and purchasing authorities to support Person Centred Planning and ensure that full account is taken of the social, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs of everyone.

Woodhouse Cottage promotes Craegmoor's communication strategy, "Your Voice", which encourages individuals, based on their preferred method of communication, to voice their views about the support they receive. Monthly meetings are held where individuals are able to represent the views and voices of others living at the service. This is extended to area, divisional and national level.

The Surroundings

Woodhouse Cottage is a beautiful detached house set in private gardens located in East Ardsley. The service is situated near Wakefield town centre, which offers shopping and leisure facilities.

Service Facilities

Woodhouse Cottage is a detached, stone-built house, which is situated in beautiful surroundings. It has 6 bedrooms, all with en- suite facilities. Everyone is supported and encouraged to personalise their bedrooms.

The service has a large lounge, which has a digital television and a DVD player, and a smaller quiet lounge with a television and a DVD player. The utility/laundry room is available for people to do their laundry, with or without support. The office can be used for internet access, with staff support. There is also an activities room with a pool table.

The large garden is used frequently during the summer months for BBQs and parties. The front garden is well maintained and blooms in the summer months.
