The Willows & Ghyllside

At The Willows and Ghyllside, treatment is offered for adults with a primary diagnosis of a mental health illness. Our dedication, enthusiasm and imagination rise to every challenge and make positive outcomes a reality or everyone.
Overview of Service
We provide support for 47 people from the age of 18 and have accommodation for 16 females and 31 males. The Willows and Ghyllside are registered to provide support for people with complex mental illnesses and can admit individuals both liable and not liable to be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007).
The Willows supports individuals requiring 24 hour hospital treatment and focuses on enabling them to develop the skills they need to live more independently in the community. There are 2 'Active' rehabilitation wards; one for males and one for females, for those who are able to engage in a more intensive rehabilitation programme. There are also 'Slow Stream' rehabilitation facilities for those who may require a longer stay which are attached to 'Step Down' units for individuals who are ready to take the next step towards independence.
Ghyllside supports 4 people moving on from The Willows.
The Willows and Ghyllside are located in the village of Steeton, which is just a 5 minute walk away. The local shops and Airedale General Hospital are within walking distance and there is a regular bus route to the nearby towns of Skipton and Keighley. There is a local train station providing access to places further afield.
What It's Like to Live Here
We follow the Care Programme Approach (CPA), which means that everyone has their own care pathway designed to meet their specific needs and are provided with a stable and safe rehabilitative programme. We encourage everyone to be actively involved in the design of their care pathway.
The recovery model of care is used, which includes psychosocial intervention and cognitive behavioural therapy. We ensure that both the social and psychological needs of each individual are met.
Everyone has their own nurse allocated to them who works closely with the Multi Disciplinary Team. The Multi Disciplinary Team includes consultant psychiatrists and psychologists, occupational therapists and social workers, as well as a GP.
A typical day might include therapeutic activities, town shopping, some voluntary work and organised trips and events.
Surroundings
The Willows is located in attractive grounds which include various patient areas. The hospital has been designed to offer spacious accommodation conducive to a rehabilitative environment. The environment is light and airy and therapy areas are spacious and comfortable. Individuals have bedrooms with full en-suite facilities. The 'Step Down' services are designed with independent living in mind. The facilities have been designed to support people to develop their independence and confidence before moving into a community setting.
Service Facilities
Ghyllside supports 4 people and has a large lounge and dining room area for individuals to relax and receive visits from family and friends.
All individuals have the opportunity to progress towards full independence and are actively supported to do their own cooking and housekeeping.
