The Orwell provides Dementia and nursing care for 38 older people. We provide tailored care to meet the individual needs and wishes of everyone who lives here.

Overview of Service

We support and care for 38 older people in 2 separate houses: The Cottage and the Alan McCusker Wing. We care for people who require nursing and specialist Dementia care.

Our dedicated and caring staff team provide 24 hour support in a relaxed and homely environment.

Each individual has a comprehensive care package tailored to meet their personal needs, a named nurse and a key worker.

What It's Like to Live Here

We create and help maintain lifestyles that are as similar as possible to those enjoyed at home. We do this by positively encouraging regular interaction between residents and the local community. This includes contact with friends and former neighbours and involvement with local groups.

We encourage participation from families and friends through regular visits, involvement in special days and other events.

There are also an extensive range of activities which individuals can choose to become involved in. These may include playing music, games, arts and crafts, watching films and attending church services. We are visited once a week by a local hairdresser and once every 2 months by a chiropodist.

The home is situated in the village of Wherstead, an area of outstanding beauty, which is approximately 3 miles from the centre of Ipswich.

Service Facilities

The Orwell has been tastefully decorated throughout and has the facilities to support 38 people. All bedrooms have en-suite facilities and individuals are encouraged and supported to personalise their bedrooms. The home boasts a large conservatory and an airy lounge area.

There is a tranquil garden that offers a relaxing atmosphere and a quiet retreat.
