The Cedars Crickhowell

We provide support for 31 people with Huntington's Disease and other neurological conditions. We are totally focused on providing innovative therapeutic care and support that puts individuals first. This enables and encourages individuals to progress through a care pathway that fulfils their maximum potential.

Overview of Service

At The Cedars we provide support for 31 adults. Our in-house Multi Disciplinary Team offers Person Centred treatment for people with Huntington's Disease and other neurological conditions, for example; brain injuries, Pick's Disease and Korsakoff's Syndrome. There are qualified nurses on duty at all times. A physiotherapist and an occupational therapist provide in-house therapeutic group and 1:1 sessions.

Person Centred Planning supports each individual's personal choices and aspirations with regards to daily living and our large team of support workers support and encourage this.

What it's Like to Live Here

Everyone has their own personalised activity programme, which - depending on ability, wishes and risk assessments - might include; outings, shopping trips, attending the local "Arts Alive" group and Bingo. Some activities are on a 1:1 basis, whilst others are group sessions, such as the "Your Voice "meetings, where people are encouraged to discuss their views on the care and support they receive. Some individuals find it difficult to access the community due to their condition. Therefore we have a range of in-house activities, a cinema and a mobile beauty salon, to name a few.

Surroundings

We are situated near Crickhowell, a small town close to the Brecon Beacons. There are transport links to other towns such as Abergavenny and Brecon and we also have our own mini bus with a tail lift.

Service Facilities

The building is on one level for those who require wheel chair access.

The large sensory garden is a great place to relax in and includes a fountain and paved walkways. In the summer months we hold BBQs and garden parties.

Individuals are encouraged to bring their personal belongings to create a homely atmosphere. We have overnight-stay accomodation for visitors. A large kitchen provides freshly cooked, good quality food, which caters for individual diets.
