St Martins Road

St Martins Road supports up to six people with autism and associated learning disabilities.
Overview of the service
At St Martins, we provide personalised, outcome-based support that starts with an assessment of people’s needs and their strengths and abilities.
We provide continuity and personal security for the people who live here. Each individual has a key worker and a co-key worker, who both work closely with them.
Support Planning
- Staff work flexibly with individuals to develop and tailor support plans and activity plans to meet their needs
- We assist people to be as independent as possible by developing their daily living skills such as cleaning, cooking and shopping
- Support plans are outcome focused using SMART targets that enable people to achieve their dreams and aspirations
- We assist individuals to identify and set short term and long term goals
- All achievements, no matter how small, are recognised
- Families, friends and other significant people are fully involved in the support planning process
Our Staff
- Our highly experienced staff team provide 24-hour support – and this seamless cover means that staff have a clear understanding of people’s needs
- Staff members are either qualified, or working towards their vocational qualifications
- They receive training in specialist areas such as challenging behaviour, epilepsy, the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and other communication tools
- Staffing ratios are based on people’s needs and can be adjusted as their needs change
- We are supported by Craegmoor’s national team of Quality Development Advisors, who offer specialist advice on best practice in autism and behaviour support
- We work closely with other professionals including GPs, psychologists, community nurses and community teams
Our Service
- St Martins Road is a converted vicarage, designed as a low arousal environment suitable for people with autism
- The ground floor has a dining room, lounge and kitchen, as well as a bedroom with an en-suite shower room
- On the next two floors are five more bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities
- An extension houses a large kitchen and laundry
- Everyone is encouraged to personalise their rooms, to suit their needs
Our large garden has a patio and seating area where individuals can relax or socialise. People can also choose to garden, grow vegetables, use the trampoline or have BBQs.
Everyone is supported to give their views about living here through ‘Your Voice’, which encourages people to give their views about the support they receive using their preferred method of communication.
We also encourage people to take an active part in their local community and to maintain contact with people who are important them.
Activities
- Activities are based on people’s preferences and interests
- We support people to choose and experience new and familiar activities such as swimming, ice skating, reflexology, bowling, rock climbing, going to football matches, and catching the bus or train to visit new places
- People are also supported to go on holidays, day trips and short breaks in the UK or abroad
Living Environment
- We are within walking distance of the GP and local shops
- We are about five miles from the M5, and two miles from Bristol town centre and Temple Meads train station
- A regular bus runs from St Martins to Bristol Town centre and train station
