Shaldon House

Shaldon House supports adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour. We enable people to live as independently as possible ensuring that each individual can make their own choices about the support they receive. We do everything we can to improve the health and wellbeing of the individuals we support and as a team we are focused on building positive outcomes for everyone.

Overview of Service

There is a warm, welcoming atmosphere in the service and everyone is actively involved in the day-to-day decisions about the running of their home. Our dedicated staff provide 24 hour support for 10 people who live at Shaldon House and the level of support is tailored to individuals' needs.

We encourage and support people to recognise and identify their goals and ambitions and how they would like to go about meeting them.

Shaldon House promotes Craegmoor's communication strategy, "Your Voice", which encourages individuals, based on their preferred method of communication, to voice their views about the support they receive. Monthly meetings are held where individuals are able to represent the views and voices of others living at the service. This is extended to area, divisional and national level.

What it's Like to Live Here

The people that we support are encouraged through their Person Centred Plans to achieve their goals and aspirations. For some people this means attending college to access various courses, including cooking, art and daily living skills. For others it means work placements and other day opportunities in line with their goals.

Within the service we continually and consistently promote the development of social skills, independent living and personal responsibility. This includes daily skills such as shopping, cooking, doing laundry and cleaning and tasks are dependent upon each individuals' ability. The people who live here are very proud of their home as they have so much involvement in creating it.

Surroundings

Shaldon House is situated on the outskirts of Bristol. Bristol has a wide range of entertainment facilities, restaurants, shops and other amenities.

Service Facilities

The service is a large semi-detached house, situated in a quiet area of Horfield. It has a large spacious living room/dining room. Everyone has their own bedrooms which they are encouraged and supported to personalise with their own belongings and furnishings.

The house has specialised equipment to support people with physical disabilities.
