Newtown Road

Newtown Road is a detached house with a spacious garden, close to the centre of Trowbridge. We support 3 people 24 hours a day, who have Autistic Spectrum Disorder and who may also have a learning disability.
Overview of service
Staffing ratios at the service are developed depending on the individual needs of the people we support and can be flexible if people's needs change. We can also offer day support to people who need it; again, this support is tailored to the needs of the individual.
We aim to provide a safe and therapeutic environment where staff can support individuals to achieve their goals & develop their skills; we will assess and identify the individual's needs and how we can best support them. We support individuals to make a person centred plan so that staff will know how the person wants to be supported.
What it's like to live here
The staff team work with individuals to develop an activities timetable and to ensure that everyone is given the opportunity to lead a full and active life. Being actively part of the local community is something that we encourage and we support people to take part in social events as well as visiting local pubs and clubs on a regular basis.
Newtown Road is connected to a larger service called The Old Rectory, where there is a skills centre that people can access to learn basic skills such as cookery, using a computer and gardening, as well as more therapeutic activities such as art, music sessions and individual communication techniques. The local college offers a range of life skills and relaxation courses for people with a learning disability. The service also supports people with swimming sessions, music therapy, horse riding and work placements.
Surroundings
Newtown Road is close to the centre of Trowbridge, with access to shopping centres, museums, theatres, swimming pools, a gym and colleges all within easy walking distance. There is a train station and bus stops are very close to the service with good links to other towns. Within the area there are also many country parks and nature reserves that can be easily accessed for more relaxing activities. Newtown Road is linked with a nearby service called The Old Rectory.
Service facilities
Newtown Road is a detached and spacious house; there is a large lounge and dining area. The home has a large garden with fruit trees and areas to sit; there is also a BBQ area. All three bedrooms are on the first floor and there is a shared bathroom. People using the service are encouraged to decorate and furnish their rooms to their own individual taste.
People who live at Newtown Road are encouraged to prepare their own meals and participate in the upkeep of their home with support from staff. Everyone is encouraged to attend regular 'Your Voice' meetings where they make suggestions and plans about the service.
There is a working allotment at the nearby skills centre where people are encouraged to participate in planting, growing and picking their own fruit and vegetables, and help to look after the chickens.
