Longhouse

We provide a comprehensive community based service for up to three adults with learning disabilities who require nursing care including those on the Autistic Spectrum.

Overview of service

We have a team of Nurses who are experienced in working individuals who exhibit challenging behaviours.

Our last CQC inspection was undertaken in June 09 and we met all the requirements required to ensure a safe and pleasant living environment.

A Nurse or Support Worker assists each person in planning their care and helping them decide on their future goals.

What it's like to live here

Individuals are encouraged to assist in meal preparation and are supported to visit places of interest within the local community. There are many scenic routes for walking nearby and weather permitting some people enjoy spending time in the garden.

Surroundings

There is a local bus service which will goes directly into the nearest town. The motorway is a short drive away and you can get there within ten minutes driving time. The nearest train station is in a little place called Pontyclun, which has good local links to neighbouring areas. There are many places of interest. One in particular is Castell Coch it is in Tongwynlias and has many scenic walks.

Service facilities

Longhouse is a three bedded home and offers a sitting room, bathroom and shower room, conservatory, dining room, kitchen and utility room. We encourage a calm relaxing atmosphere with an uncluttered environment. We encourage real engagement between staff and those use our service with structure and where needed visual support. Unfortunately are not catered to meet the long term needs of someone with a physical Disability.

There are Occupational and Speech Therapists who assist people to develop their potential. They visit at least twice a week and offer various courses.

We are always keen to give a variety of leisure activities, but the favourite ones that the individuals who currently live here like are: pitch and put, walks and the seaside.

If you are able to, you can assist in meal preparation or the staff who work here prepare your meals.

Our home is based within a farm. The farm is no longer a working farm, but there are still animals to see, mainly horses and wildlife.

We have a secure back garden and Barbecues are a big favourite in the summer. We also enjoy growing our own vegetables.

You will have your own bedroom that you can put things in that are important to you.
