Kingston

Kingston supports 10 adults; people with a variety of learning disabilities and people with Downs Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Dementia, sensory impairments, Autism and challenging behaviour. We are committed to ensuring that -regardless of abilities - everyone is supported to have opportunities to be part of the community and live in a safe, homely environment.
Overview of Service
At Kingston we are dedicated to enabling people to develop their skills and to live as independently as possible.
Each individual is supported, by a key worker of their choice, to develop a Person Centred Plan, enabling all individuals to make their own choices about the support they receive. We encourage and support everyone to recognise and identify their goals and ambitions and how they would like to go about meeting them.
Kingston promotes Craegmoor's communication strategy, "Your Voice", which encourages individuals, based on their preferred method of communication, to voice their views about the care and support they receive. Monthly meetings are held where individuals are able to represent the views and voices of others living at the service. This is extended to a voice at area, divisional and national level.
What it's Like to Live Here
Each individual has a weekly activity planner and is fully involved in organising this. We offer a variety of activities both in-house and within the community. People are supported to access community facilities; such as the local church, swimming pool and shops. Some enjoy group activities such as crafts, baking and pet care.
There is a college nearby offering a variety of courses and we also access a local drop in centre and drama group.
Surroundings
Kingston is based in the seaside town of Margate, surrounded by beautiful beaches and a stunning coastline. It is close to all local amenities and the local railway station. The house is on a main bus route and is within walking distance of the shopping centre, restaurants, pubs, clubs, amusement arcades, an adventure golf course, a cinema and a swimming pool.
Service Facilities
There is a large communal lounge and a smaller activity lounge adjacent to this. The small kitchen area is for individuals to prepare drinks and the large kitchen can be used - with support, if needed - to prepare meals and develop daily living skills.
There is a separate dining area, a laundry room, toilets on both floors and shower rooms and baths. Kingston has a reflexology relaxation room and a reflexologist visits twice a week. Everybody has their own bedroom and is encouraged to personalise them.
A cook prepares the food and is able to cater for varying dietary needs. Everybody is encouraged and supported to be involved in the planning of menus and meal preparation.
