Cherrywood WSM

Cherrywood provides support for 13 people with learning disabilities, autism and challenging behaviour. We encourage, support and promote independence for everyone living at Cherrywood. We do everything we can to improve the health and wellbeing of the individuals we support and as a team we are focused on building positive outcomes for everyone.

Overview of Service

Cherrywood is an elegant, 3-story Georgian House, which is set in a beautiful conservation area. Cherrywood provides support for people with learning disabilities, autism and challenging behaviour.

Everyone is involved in designing their own Person Centred Plan with staff support. The plans are tailored to suit individual needs and provide the correct level of support required. They also enable people to make their own choices about the support they receive.

We encourage and support people living at Cherrywood to recognise and identify their goals and ambitions and decide how they would like to go about achieving them. Staff at Cherrywood support people to gain greater independence through educational programmes or employment. The level of support is dependent on each individual's needs.

What it's Like to Live Here

The Cherrywood staff team encourage and support people to access a range of day opportunities, local colleges and employment. We support and encourage people to participate in activities that promote life skills and independence; from cooking, cleaning and shopping, to making appointments, managing finances and attending work placements.

In the evenings some people like to go to the pub, go out for a meal, or maybe go to the theatre.

Within the house we continually and consistently promote the development of social skills, independent living and personal responsibility. The people who live here are very proud of their home as they have so much involvement in creating it.

Surroundings

Cherrywood is situated on the edge of Weston Super Mare. It is a short walk away from the woods that lead to the beach and a short bus ride to the town of Weston Super Mare. There, most of the high street stores can be found; alongside a theatre, cinemas, a bowling centre, museums, cafeìs and restaurants. Colleges and sports centres are also close by.

There is easy access to the railway station; Bristol is just 30 minutes away, other nearby places include Burnham-on-Sea, Taunton and Devon.

Service Facilities

Cherrywood has 2 large day rooms, which are bright and airy, where people like to relax, listen to music, or watch television. There is also an art room and a dining room. A self-contained flat is available, which has the facilities to support 1 person. The flat is situated at the front of the house and consists of a bedroom, hallway, kitchen/diner with lounge seating area and a spacious bathroom.

Everyone is encouraged to be involved in the preparation and planning of meals, whether that is in the main kitchen or the kitchens on the second floor, where people can prepare meals for family and friends.

The front of the house has a large lawn, with mature shrubs and flowerbeds and a drive leading to the main entrance. To the rear of the house is a narrow vegetable garden, which leads to the small terraced gardens.
