What it's like to live here

The patients at Tyn y Coed all have individual activity programmes which vary on a week by week basis, these will include, specific therapies - Healthy Relationships Group, OCN (Open College Network), Art Therapy. A variety of Occupational Therapy based activities - Cooking programmes., road safety, budgeting, horticultural programme.

We encourage social and leisure activities such as attending the local gym, sports centre, shopping, holidays outings to the local pub. All of these activities have a focus in respect of developing skills as well as being ‘fun’.

Surroundings

There are several near by shopping centres which can be accessed by either utilising the company car or public transport. The hospital is situated in a rural location with lovely views of the surrounding Vale. Patients also enjoy taking walks along the public footpaths. Within walking distance there is a local supermarket, public house and golf course.

Service facilities

The service has excellent garden facilities with large patio areas as well as gardens that are utilised for walking. All bedrooms are personalised and due to the hospital being a farm house previously it has maintained the lovely features such as stone walls and bay windows.

We have two company vehicles which are used daily at the service to facilitate both social and educational activities. We also encourage the patients to unitise public transport as much as possible to promote independence.

At the service we employ a cook who engages with all patients on a regular basis to ascertain their preferences, we also utilise a food comments book which enables patients to log any comments re the quality of the food provided.
