Craegmoor’s training and development of people is an important part of ensuring that all employees feel satisfied and rewarded in their roles. This ensures that from a person’s initial induction into the company there is a defined learning path that will be followed to provide each employee with the right skills to do their jobs and opportunities to advance in their careers.
At Craegmoor we take this process very seriously and have established a training and career development team that support all staff in personal development across a number of areas:
- Key skills, numeracy and literacy and NVQ’s in Health and Social care at levels 2, 3 and 4 and finally a Registered Managers Award
- Statutory training subjects such as health and safety, manual handling, infection control and a host of others
- Service specific subjects that are tailored to the type of service people work in eg. Older people, Learning disability, Autistic Spectrum Disorder etc
- Management development skills such as Employing People, Performance Management and Project Management
- IT training on the main software applications used in everyday life
To support the employees in their working locations, the training team is based mostly within field locations with the Head of Training and Career Development and the career development team being based in the support centre in Worcester.
Induction is the key to staff becoming confident and competent in their roles quickly and to support this we have an induction programme that incorporates all the Common Induction Standards as a minimum and goes further in many areas. New staff in Craegmoor complete this within 12 weeks of joining.
Within the health and social care sector, we have a major obligation to ensure all our staff are trained in the statutory subjects to ensure that they provide our service users with a brilliant experience in a safe environment. To ensure this happens we work very closely with both our regulators and a number of key training partners who deliver the training on our behalf.
As of April 2006, we have established an NVQ centre based in Caerphilly, South Wales, where currently we have 2000 learners registered on the various NVQ programmes that we offer. To support delivery of the NVQ’s we have a team of both Craegmoor assessors and subcontractor partners.
