Developing social skills through poetry
One of our residents has just completed his second pamphlet of poetry. He has been writing in various modes for a long time, from novellas to fanfiction.
Eighteen months ago he had his first poetry performance in Brighton. Since then he has performed at the Poetry Café in London, Brighton's Komedia and Pallant House Gallery in Chichester. He’s also had a poem featured in the Big Issue.
The resident launched his first pamphlet, Melodies and Melancholy in a pub in Brighton and his reading went down a storm, with members of the public jostling to buy the pamphlet. His second collection which is themed around the seven deadly sins will launch shortly.
Writing poetry helped the resident to express his emotions and develop his independent social life.
