Trust wins armed forces mental health contract

19 November 2008

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust won a contract to provide in-patient mental health services to the British armed forces, it has been reported.

The health trust is one of seven across the country to be awarded the contract by the Minsitry of Defence, according to the Evening Telegraph.

CPFT chief executive Karen Bell told the news provider: "We are looking forward to working closely with the Ministry Of Defence and forming a lasting relationship that provides high-quality NHS services to our new clients."

Meanwhile under-secretary of state for defence Kevan Jones MP told the paper that the government wants armed forces personnel to be able to access treatment close to their homes.

He added that the new contracts will achieve exactly that.

In related news, a man who posed as a war hero at memorial ceremonies across the country has been exposed as a fake.

Tom Cattell, 74, bought his medals on the internet.
