OLDER PEOPLE LEARNING DISABILITIES MENTAL HEALTH

Carr-Gomm residents fear for future

14 November 2008

Vulnerable tenants with learning difficulties, mental health problems and drug addictions are concerned about their future as housing charity Carr-Gomm pulls out of a council contract, it has been reported.

The announcement by the group to terminate its housing contract with Camden Council comes two weeks after the death of the founder's 86-year-old founder Richard Carr-Gomm, according to the Camden New Journal.

Residents housed by the scheme fear they will have to find somewhere else to live as a result of the contract termination, the news provider states.

A spokesperson for the charity told the paper: "We appreciate this is an unsettling time. We will support each person throughout the process and ensure the transfer of services to another provider will be as smooth as possible."

The Carr-Gomm society was established in 1964 to help lonely and needy people of all ages and grew to support 3,000 people a year.
