Alzheimer's research gets £2m

 A team of researchers from the Peninsula Medical School and the University of Plymouth will receive £2 million of funding to help them develop new treatments for Alzheimer's. The Plymouth Evening Herald reports that the cash will be spent over five years, studying new ways of developing clinical trials for the treatment of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.Speaking to the publication, Professor John Zajicek, a consultant neurologist at Derriford Hospital and professor of clinical neuroscience at the Peninsula Medical School, said: "We're delighted to have been awarded £2 million."The funding will allow us to make a real difference to the long-term treatment of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's."Among the objectives of the research is to produce treatments which can slow the deterioration of these conditions over time.The Buckinghamshire Advertiser reports that singer Mary-Barr le Messurier of Gerrards Cross has produced a DVD aimed at people caring for those suffering from dementia, titled Archie and Ethel.
