OLDER PEOPLE LEARNING DISABILITIES MENTAL HEALTH

Day centre opened in Loughborough

07 November 2008

A day centre for people with learning difficulties has been opened in Loughborough, it has been reported.

Frederick Street Community Opportunities, which is open Monday to Friday, is based at the town's United Reform Church, and helps up to 30 people at a time, according to Loughborough News.

At the opening on Tuesday (November 4th) David Sprason, Leicestershire County Council Cabinet lead member for Adult Social Care, said: "After the review of day services for people with learning disabilities in Loughborough, it became obvious that there was a need for a more community based service."

He added that Community Opportunities would be a real asset to the town and provide an ideal base for people with learning difficulties and mental health problems wanting to access their local community.

The group was originally set up in 2002 under the name New Beginnings with the primary focus being behaviour support services for adults in the region.
