Public consultation for mental health plans

 Three new Surrey hospitals which will provide 24-hour access for patients with serious mental illnesses have been put out to public consultation. Abraham Cowley psychiatric ward at St Peter's Hospital will also be updated as part of the plan, according to Get Surrey.The new units will also offer treatment for people with learning disabilities and drug and alcohol problems in Surrey and north-east Hampshire.Released by the Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Trust, the consultation outlines the trust's five-year plan, the news provider reports.Dr Malcolm Hawthorne, the trust's medical director, told Get Surrey: "We are committed to providing person-centred care that allows people to receive the therapies and treatment they need for recovery."A new survey into NHS's mental health performance has found 78 per cent of people with problems are satisfied with their treatment.Conducted by the Healthcare Commission, the study involved 14,000 people facing mental health problems and found some areas of NHS treatment needed improving. © Adfero Ltd
