Health care jobs go unfilled

20 August 2008

There has been a significant growth in the number of unfilled care home jobs, according to new figures released by a specialist online recruitment firm.

Jobs4Medical has announced it has more than 1,200 care home specific jobs that need filling on its website, despite receiving more than 16,000 applications since the start of the year.

The company claims that care home managers are facing an uphill struggle as a result of the credit crunch and lots of posts remain available.

Vicky Scott, operations manager at Jobs4Medical, said: "We have had contact with an increasing number of care home professionals who are feeling the squeeze right now."

"There has never been a greater importance in reducing the cost of the recruiting process," she added.

Jobs4Medical, which is part of the Jobs4Group, was launched in 2005 and has 108,000 unique visitors to its global medical recruitment site every month of the year.

Somerset's lead mental healthcare service provider has been commended for its consistently high standards.

The secretary of state for health Alan Johnson and chair of the Healthcare Commission Professor Ian Kennedy have lauded the Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust for covering "what really matters to patients".

Mr Johnson congratulated everyone working at the organisation for ensuring the trust performed so well in this year's healthcare check.

Trust chief executive Edward Colgan said: "We are extremely pleased to again receive national recognition."

He added: "This achievement is a testament to the hard work and commitment of staff throughout the Trust and I thank them all."

The organisation employs 1,200 staff and manages a budget of more than £54 million.

A leading provider of treatment to adults with mental ill health and learning difficulties, the trust saw more than 13,000 new patients last year.
