Learning disabilities housing scheme revealed
01 August 2008
A housing scheme designed to aid people with learning disabilities to get their own accommodation has been proposed. It is being developed for implementation in north Wales and will allow people to buy between 25 per cent and 75 per cent of a share in a property. The Wrexham Evening Leader reports that Pennaf Housing group is working with council agencies to develop the scheme.People with little income or savings will be helped to become shared owners under the proposals.Jen Roberts, business development manager for Pennaf, told the newspaper that the scheme will be an "affordable alternative" to renting or buying a property outright."Shared ownership is particularly helpful for people who would have difficulty raising a deposit or whose income would not support a full mortgage," she added.Last month, Stockton borough council revealed that it was set to develop more homes for people with learning disabilities across the region, 24dash.com reported. © Adfero Ltd
