New care home to receive first residents
02 July 2008
A new care home is set to receive its first 50 residents this week as a new "care campus" opens its doors. Athelstan House has been developed in partnership between Wiltshire Primary Care Trust, Wiltshire county council, The Orders of St John Care Trust, the Gable House GP practise and Brackley Investment. The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald reports that the home can provide nursing and residential care for up to 80 people.Accommodation is divided into four "care wings" with their own lounge and dining room and all residents' bedrooms are equipped with an ensuite toilet and shower.John Thomson, county council cabinet member for community services, told the newspaper that it was a "real joy" to see the project "reach this milestone"."Providing people with this type of state-of-the-art accommodation will improve their quality of life and shows what can be achieved through strong partnerships such as this," he added. It follows the news that a new care home is being planned in Gosport for people with mental health problems. The Portsmouth News reports that unused homes will be demolished and replaced with modern accommodation as part of the £9 million scheme. © Adfero Ltd
