Alzheimer's Society launches Northern Ireland campaign

01 July 2008

The Alzheimer's Society has launched a new campaign to highlight the future dementia situation in Northern Ireland.

Worried About Your Memory? aims to prompt an increased awareness of dementia issues across the country and to help identify the onset of the illness among people.

According to the Alzheimer's Society, there will be over 47,000 people in Northern Ireland suffering from dementia by 2050 and one in three people over the age of 65 will die from the disease.

It also estimates that up to two thirds of people will never be officially diagnosed.

The Worried About Your Memory? campaign will provide free literature in GP practises across Northern Ireland.

In other news, staff from Moorhouse Consulting are set to embark on a 480 kilometre "bike run" in the hope of raising £15,000 for the Alzheimer's Society.

The management consultants hope to complete the distance from Gretna to London by foot and bike in 48 hours.
