OLDER PEOPLE LEARNING DISABILITIES MENTAL HEALTH

New magazine focusing on mental health launched

01 July 2008

A new magazine has been launched in the UK to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

The publication, entitled One in Four, will be produced quarterly and is being written by people who have "experienced mental health problems".

Press Association reports that the magazine has been funded by loans and grants from charities and is published by community interest group Social Spider.

Mark Brown, editor of One in Four, told the news agency that the "old stereotypes of mental health difficulty are slowly eroding".

"While there are still improvements to be made in most areas, possibly for the first time ever mental health difficulties are not something that must be endured in silence, without help or support," he added.

One in Four will be available for free in GP surgeries, libraries and Mind charity shops.

The new magazine follows the news that a support booklet for people with learning difficulties in Calderdale has been produced.

All About You has been created by members of the Calderdale Self Advocacy Network, the Halifax Evening Courier reported.
