OLDER PEOPLE LEARNING DISABILITIES MENTAL HEALTH

Businesses 'learning about employees' mental health'

27 June 2008

North-east businesses are learning about the importance of mental health among employees.

Members of Darlington Business Club are taking a new first aid course which has been organised by insurance broker BiB.

The Northern Echo reports that the Mental Health First Aid seminars aim to teach business leaders the skills to spot potential problems in employees and understand the best ways to give them support and information.

It is part of a national programme run by the National Institute for Mental Health and Care Services Improvement Partnership, after a successful pilot scheme in Scotland.

Brian Jackson, BiB's corporate business director, told the newspaper: "Hopefully, people will take away a new understanding and empathy when it comes to mental health matters and we are delighted to be sponsoring such an important seminar."

A recent report from the Evening Standard found that the amount of City workers experiencing mental health problems is increasing due to the credit crunch.
