Mental health charity calls for cannabis warning
13 February 2008
A leading mental health charity has called on the government to add warnings to cigarette papers. Rethink believes manufacturers of rolling papers should be forced to display messages about the damaging effects of cannabis on their packaging.Such a move, the charity argues, could significantly reduce the number of people smoking the drug."The government should put their money into a public health campaign to educate people about the mental health dangers," said Jane Harris, head of campaigns at Rethink."King-size rolling papers should carry health warnings like those on cigarette packets. The government is currently considering reversing its decision to reclassify cannabis as a class C drug.Rethink is urging the government to commission a major study into the link between cannabis and mental illness. © Adfero Ltd
