About Woodpecker Lodge

Woodpecker Lodge is a beautiful bungalow, located within the grounds of Weir End House, and provides support for up to 7 individuals who have learning disabilities, mental health problems and autism. Our service is able to provide people with a safe and supportive environment where they can be fully involved in their care and support planning in order to lead a more independent and fulfilling life.

Our approach to support:

We aim to enable all individuals to make their own choices about the support they receive. We do everything we can to improve the health and wellbeing of the individuals we support and as a team we are focused on building positive outcomes for everyone.

We believe it is important for the people we support to maintain involvement with the local community and it is our aim to enable people to live as independently as possible in the future. People living here work very closely with the local community and are involved in various groups and are members of different committees.

We encourage and support everyone at Woodpecker Lodge to recognise and identify their goals and ambitions and how they would like to go about meeting them.

We also promote Craegmoor's communication strategy, "Your Voice", which encourages individuals, based on their preferred method of communication, to voice their views about the support they receive. Monthly meetings are held where individuals are able to represent the views and voices of themselves and others living at the service.

What it’s like to live here:

Woodpecker Lodge is designed as a transitional service for individuals who are preparing to live in their own homes independently. In line with this, the people living here, along with their staff team, are committed to enabling themselves to be involved in the running of their home and to pursue any goals they may have, with staff support, if required.

At Woodpecker Lodge we are committed to encouraging and supporting individuals to develop the skills they need to live as independently as possible - whether this means small, realistic steps to support with planning, preparing and cooking meals or finding employment in the local community.

Everyone living at Woodpecker Lodge benefits from the many activities available within the service and its scenic surroundings and everyone helps to choose and plan the activities they would like to do. Where required, people are supported to access the local community and surrounding areas, giving individuals access to a snooker club, a library, a heritage centre and many restaurants and pubs. There are local supermarkets, weekly markets and monthly farmers markets. There are also good public transport links to the surrounding areas, such as the Forest of Dean.
