About The Cherries

The Cherries specialises in supporting adults with autism, learning disabilities and those who present behaviours that challenge. We support up to six individuals at any one time and specialise in communication needs and independent life skills. We do everything we can to improve the health and wellbeing of the individuals we support and as a team we are focused on building positive outcomes for everyone.

Our approach to support:

The Cherries is staffed 24 hours a day, with our staffing ratio appropriate to the needs of each individual.

All individuals are involved in designing their own Person Centred Plan, which are created with staff support. The plans are tailored to enable all individuals to make their own choices about the support they receive. We encourage and support everyone at The Cherries to recognise and identify their goals and ambitions and decide how they would like to go about achieving them.

The Cherries promotes Craegmoor's communication strategy "Your Voice", which encourages individuals, based on their preferred method of communication, to voice their views about the support they receive. Monthly meetings are held where individuals are able to represent the views and voices of others living at the service.

What it’s like to live here:

People living at The Cherries have day plans tailored to their individual needs and what they would like to do; these are balanced between developmental tasks and leisure activities.

The people who live at The Cherries like doing a variety of things, including: Ten pin bowling, trampolining, horse riding, and day trips. Some people enjoy cooking and helping out with domestic tasks. The emphasis of support is based on community living, to encourage people to reach their maximum level of independence.

The Cherries is located in the seaside resort of Folkestone. It is within a short walking distance of the town centre and the railway station and is within half an hour walk of a cinema, a bowling alley, colleges and places of interest, like Canterbury Cathedral and Dover Castle. On a more local level, our home is located near shops, a post office, a supermarket and a public house.

“I like The Cherries and I enjoy going to the cinema every week.” - Person supported by The Cherries
