About River House

River House is a specialist service for 6 people aged 18 years and over with autistic spectrum conditions and learning disabilities, who may also present behaviours that challenge.

Located in the Shaw’s Bridge area of Greater Belfast, River House is in walking distance to local shops and parks, as well as major bus routes into Belfast city centre which is only five miles from the service.

Our approach to care and support

This robust and specifically designed service brings together the best qualities of a local service with the support and expertise of a well-respected service provider.

The staff team at River House have significant expertise in helping people with autism and learning disabilities, and are supported by a dedicated positive behaviour support specialist, as well as Craegmoor’s specialist autism leads.

The specialist support provided at River House includes:

  • Six en-suite bedrooms
  • A spacious garden, a comfortable and homely communal lounge, modern kitchen and dining area
  • Person-centred support programmes in a safe and caring environment
  • Intensive interactive communication
  • Access to positive behaviour support and specialist autism leads
  • Education and voluntary/paid employment opportunities
  • Progression through a care pathway that fulfils each individual’s maximum potential to live more independently
  • Interaction within Craegmoor’s communication strategy “Your Voice”

The upper ground floor consists of three large, individually decorated bedrooms that all have en-suite wet rooms, a modern living room and separate dining room. There is also a modern fitted kitchen, as well as a garden on the upper ground level which is fully secure and accessible to individuals supported here.

The lower ground floor comprises of three large bedrooms with integrated lounge and separate wet room. These rooms have been designed with skills development in mind and include an Activities of Daily Living (ADL) kitchen designed to promote independence, whilst maintaining safety.

The lower ground bedrooms also have a separate secure garden with access to the shared gardens to the rear.

All the furniture and fittings at River House are robust and homely, and have been designed with those we support in mind.

River House may be suitable for those who meet the following admissions criteria:
