About Millburn Homes

Located in Cambuslang, on the outskirts of Glasgow, Millburn Homes supports adults with learning disabilities, mental health conditions and autism. We are passionate about encouraging the individuals we support to make their own choices about the assistance they receive, and together help to build positive outcomes for everyone.

Ideally situated in spacious surroundings, Millburn Homes provides a quality, needs-led service, with an emphasis on social inclusion and independence. It offers easy access to the local community and further afield to Glasgow and the surrounding areas.

Our approach to support:

Our needs-led service places emphasis on social inclusion and independence, where people make their own choices through Craegmoor’s ‘your voice’ forum where monthly feedback meetings are held with the individuals we support. Our dedicated team of staff are committed to providing a quality service which is focused on supporting the needs of each individual to provide positive outcomes. The local GP visits Millburn each week to help with any health requirements of those we support – and in line with the ‘Keys to Life’ strategy which we promote here.

The establishment of high ratio staffing ensures a highly supportive framework in which people can achieve their potential in a safe environment with dignity and respect. A key worker is assigned to each person ensuring a holistic approach to individual support and daily fulfilment. Each individual we assist here has an individual support package, specifically planned to reflect their personal needs. Choice is paramount and individuals are actively encouraged to make informed decisions of their own and maintain independence.

We encourage those living at Millburn, together with their families, to actively participate in the planning of support, which is continually monitored. Standards and values are further promoted by ensuring individuals are given positive choices. The staffing structure offers extensive senior and management cover and specialist expertise including our full time Positive Behaviour Support lead who oversees individualised guidelines throughout the service.

What it’s like to live here:

Through person centred plans we encourage everyone we support to achieve their goals and aspirations. For some people we support this could be developing new daily living skills, like cooking and cleaning. For others this may mean attending college and accessing a course that they enjoy, promoting community integration and relationships building.

Our activities co-ordinator organises a wide range of daily activities, both in and out of the service, which are chosen by everyone living here. We also arrange holidays in the UK or abroad to interesting and sunny destinations to suit the individual.

Individuals' families are invited to come to the house and their support is valued by all at Millburn Homes.

“Craegmoor staff have helped me to understand myself better.” – Person supported by Craegmoor

Facilities:

Our service offers a safe, warm and homely environment where each individual is supported to access the local community and learn independent living skills to help them reach their true potential.

Two of our bungalows offer shared accommodation to those who suit this type of environment. The other two bungalows in our core and cluster model are transitional or longer term services for people with complex needs, or dual diagnosis specialising in autism. These offer individual, self contained flats all with private gardens which offer a very high quality environment.

Our aim is to increase participation and independence and provide opportunities to increase socialisation and communication whilst addressing the triad of impairment for those with autism. This offers part of a seamless service of transition to move people into the community, securing their own tenancy if appropriate as part of the natural life cycle to enhance their day to day living. Our facilities can be tailored to meet the individual needs of our service users with adaptations completed as required.
