Marshlands supports up to 18 people with a diagnosis of learning disabilities, epilepsy, diabetes and behaviours that challenge. We provide individuals with the opportunities to develop and enhance new and existing skills that they will need throughout their lives in order to live more independently. We believe in positive outcomes for everyone, and our members of staff strive to make these happen.
Our approach to support:
The staff team at Marshlands are dedicated and committed to ensuring the needs of the people we support are continuously met 24/7. There are always staff in the service to support individuals, and they can provide 1:1 support where necessary. We are supported by a multidisciplinary team where needed, including a district nurse, physiotherapists, chiropodists and aromatherapists.
People being supported at Marshlands each have a Person Centred Plan which is developed in consultation with the individual, their family and a key worker. These plans exist to outline the level of support needed, as well as identifying targets, goals and aspirations for the future and the steps that are needed to achieve these.
What it’s like to live here:
We offer a wide range of activities and we provide regular opportunities to access local tourist attractions. Some of the activities include: watching Lydd Town play football, going for walks along the beach, cycling and fishing. Within the house, individuals are encouraged to help with the cooking, domestic activities and gardening.
Some of the people living here enjoy going horse riding and attending activities at the Romney Marsh Vocational Centre such as arts and crafts, bingo, discos, karaoke, country and western dancing, dance and movement, literacy and sports sessions. We often go shopping in the local town or visit the local pub.
There is a selection of shops and facilities in the local town and a wider range of shops in the neighbouring town only a short bus ride away. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside and are close to the sea.
“It’s a friendly place, the staff are nice and helpful.” – Person supported by Marshlands
