The Lawrence rated as ‘good’ by watchdog

The Lawrence care home in Wrenthorpe, for people with learning difficulties, has been rated as 'good' for the quality of care it provides to the people it supports by the independent health and social care regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

In its new report, which follows an inspection last month, the CQC praised the home for having staff who "clearly cared" and were "courteous towards people", for its Your Voice meetings, and for using "person centred" care plans.

Inspectors said, "People who used the service spoke positively and warmly about their relationships with staff". A person the Wrenthorpe home supports said, "the staff are very kind and considerate". Another resident said, "The staff are great". Relatives told inspectors that staff are "incredibly kind" and "marvellous".

Inspectors added that "staff clearly enjoyed working at the service... and spoke fondly of the people living in the home". They described their job as being "rewarding" and the home environment as resembling "a big family".

Residents attend Your Voice meetings where they can discuss anything they wish, including potential trips and holidays. A resident from The Lawrence also attends the company's Service User Regional Forum: in the latest meeting, attendees talked about a recent barbeque, a pantomime and a Butlin's holiday.

The Lawrence's residents regularly go on trips including recently to see an Abba musical in London, and to watch tennis at the Wimbledon tournament.

The Lawrence is located in Wrenthorpe, West Yorkshire provides support for adults with a range of learning disabilities.
