Inspectors Praise "caring" home for adults with learning disabilities

Care inspectors have praised the quality of care at a residential home for those with learning and physical disabilities in Keynsham, Bristol. 

Elm Tree House - CraegmoorElm Tree House in Chandag Road – run by Craegmoor, part of the Priory Group - was rated as “good” across the board, for being well-led, responsive, caring, effective and safe.

Inspectors said people received “good care that was personal to them” and residents gave positive feedback about the staff.

The Care Quality Commission added that good relationships had been established between staff and the people they cared for.

“Staff spoke with people in a meaningful way, taking a vested interest in what people were doing, suggesting plans for the day, and staff continually offered support to people with their plans. They played music people liked and watched movies together.

“People’s privacy and dignity was maintained at all times. People were supported to eat a healthy balanced diet and their food choices were respected if they wanted an alternative.”

“Staff were very knowledgeable about people’s different behaviours and specific needs. 
“Social activities varied for people, demonstrating the service gives personalised care. Staff felt well-supported by the team and manager, and regular ‘your voice’ meetings were held with the people who live at the service. 

“Items that were discussed in the most recent meeting included the purchase of new garden furniture, winter menus and the in-house entertainment. People were actively encouraged to provide their views and were actively involved in the decision making.”

“This latest CQC report shows that Elm Tree House is a supportive and caring environment and that people feel safe and happy there.”
