Anita

Anita with her medals

World records and personal bests are just two of the reasons that make Anita such a special athlete. A regular competitor in the Down’s Syndrome World championships, Anita is a valuable member of the Olympic team. She is constantly improving and already holds the World Record for 50m Freestyle and Medley Relay, and is the world champion in the 25m breast stroke. A member of a mainstream swimming club, she travels weekly to train with her fellow swimmers who encourage her and recognise her natural ability.

A resident at Strathmore House for nine years, Anita now resides in a supported living home. She also enjoys football training, aerobics and works three days a week in her local charity shop. At 27 she has achieved so much but she doesn’t intend to stop now. She’s already looking ahead to the World Championships in Ireland, where she hopes to collect her next string of achievements.
