Mental health nursing

In the UK, 25% of the population will experience a mental health problem at some time. For most people the symptoms will be relatively minor, but others may require long term or specialist support.

It is possible to recover from or to develop an effective coping mechanism to reduce the impact of all types of mental health problems; this process is made much easier by getting the right support.

At Craegmoor, we employ highly trained, dedicated and friendly mental health nurses and other expert professionals in all of our mental health services, to ensure that we provide the best treatment and support for every person.

Independent hospitals

Craegmoor’s independent hospitals offer treatment and support for adults with a range of mental health problems including people with a forensic history.

Our independent hospitals aim to enable the people we support to progress through a care pathway that meets their requirements and fulfils their maximum potential.

The facilities available include:

  • Medium secure – for individuals with mental health problems
  • Enhanced low secure – for women with borderline personality disorder
  • Recovery hospitals and centres – for individuals with complex mental health problems
  • Nursing care – for adults with complex mental health problems

When an individual we support no longer requires the intensive support of a hospital, we can continue to support them in a new environment. Most of our services are able to provide step down units within the grounds or have close links with residential services or step down units in the community, this allows the people we support to gain more independence while still receiving support from staff they know and trust. This can be very comforting especially for people who have spent long periods of time within hospital settings.

For more information on our independent hospitals including assessments, treatment plans and our robust holistic treatment programmes visit our independent hospitals page.

Residential services

Our mental health residential services provide person centred support designed with the individual. All our staff work with the people we support to identify their individual needs, wishes and goals and use this to design a detailed support package.

Working with people who require both long and short term rehabilitation packages, we train all our staff in the latest techniques and best practice guidance both within the service and at our dedicated NVQ centre.

We also aim to provide the people we support with the skills they will need to live independently, this includes access to educational opportunities and support with gaining either voluntary or paid employment.

Multi-disciplinary team (MDT)

All of our mental health services benefit from the knowledge and expertise of our highly trained multi-disciplinary team (MDT).

Alongside our fully qualified mental health nurses, the MDT is made up of consultant psychiatrists, forensic and clinical psychologists and psychology assistants, occupational therapists, education and vocational service coordinators, physiotherapists, social workers and art and music therapists.

The entire MDT is involved in creating individual support plans with the person being supported, ensuring that everyone is fully involved in all aspects of the own treatment and recovery.
