Autism

We provide specialist support for people with autism and understand the commitment required to make a real difference to the lives of those people we support.

What is Autism?

What is Autism?

It is estimated that as many as one in a hundred individuals have autism, also referred to as Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC). It has thought to be much more common in men than women though recent research is suggesting that there may be many more women than previously recognised. There is a genetic predisposition that forms part of the cause, but other factors have an impact as well, this affects how a person's brain develops and functions.

Coping with Autism

Coping with Autism

Autism or Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) can make everyday life challenging. The degree of difficulty this can add to a person's life varies dramatically between individuals; some people with autism live completely independently whereas others need long term support.

Providing Individual Support

Providing Individual Support

Everyone diagnosed with an Autistic Spectrum Condition has their own individual abilities, needs and preferences. We always involve people using our services in deciding how they are supported and have developed unique assessment tools to help individuals and staff better understand the specific nature of their autism.

Raising The Quality Of Services

Raising The Quality Of Services

It is widely recognised that the overall quality of services offered to people with ASC throughout the UK must be raised. Craegmoor's training and quality initiatives are taking a lead in helping to improve the lives of people using our services.
