The ordinary story of Andrew's move to independence
Andrew had spent many years in nursing and residential care homes due to his mental health problems.
He really wanted to live more independently and following discussions with staff, a plan was put in place for Andrew to move into supported living.
He was apprehensive about coping on his own as he didn't feel able to do his own shopping, cooking, laundry, cleaning, attending GP appointments or to manage his own finances. Craegmoor staff were on hand to offer as much or as little support as he needed and supported him to develop his independent living skills.
Andrew is now able to manage his finances and pay his rent on his own. He also loves to go shopping, does his own cooking, and regularly attends his GP appointments. He reorders his own medication and attends a local drop in centre twice a week run by MIND which he really enjoys as it's an opportunity to interact with others with similar experiences.
Andrew now feels ready to move into his own home and live independently and with Craegmoor's support he has been bidding on local authority housing and is currently waiting for an offer to be accepted on a property.
Andrew is now so much more confident about his abilities and is incredibly positive about his future and excited about moving into his own flat.
